Lorsque la ligne quitte son rôle de contour pour devenir pleinement la matière de l'œuvre, tout bascule. La frontière devient son propre territoire et les marginaux qui erraient aux alentours s’en retrouvent les citoyens. Les abstractions filaires semblent effectivement attirer des artistes funambules, habités par ce besoin de se confronter à des formes d’expression élémentaires, pour explorer des espaces originels et y tracer des chemins aux destinations mystérieuses. “De la ligne dans le fil” amorce un dialogue entre ces artistes dont le caractère universel du propos passe par l’évocation de pratiques artisanales, souvent attribuées aux femmes, qu'ils mettent au service de leurs œuvres afin de tisser du lien.
Bien que divers dans leurs parcours individuels, par cette conversation visuelle, les artistes de cette exposition montrent le caractère commun à leur pratique. Provenant de la marge, ils dessinent leur propre trajectoire par l’utilisation du motif linéaire, pour tenir un propos profondément humain : de la puissance du fil de faire à la délicatesse du fil de soi.

When the line departs from its role as an outline to become the core material of the work, everything changes. The frontier becomes its own territory and the marginalised who roam around it become its citizens. Wirey abstractions attract high-wire artists, driven by the need to confront elementary forms of expression, to explore original spaces and to trace paths with mysterious destinations. ‘De la ligne dans le fil’ (The line within the thread) initiates a conversation among these artists, whose universal vocation involves the evocation of craft practices, often attributed to women, which they put at the service of their works in order to weave connections.
Though diverse in their individual paths, through this visual conversation the artists in this exhibition demonstrate the commonality of their practice. Coming from the margins, they draw their own trajectory through the use of the linear motif, to make a deeply human statement: from the power of threading together and delicacy of aligning the self.
